How to Earn Extra Cash by Blogging

Posted by admin on October 7, 2010

You CAN make extra money with a blog, and it can be quite fun. Yes, there is work involved, but it can be fun as well.

What is a blog?

A blog, short for ‘weblog’ is simply a website where you write articles about a particular topic that interests you.  If the thought of starting a blog sounds intimidating, don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be.  Just find a topic that you enjoy, and start writing.  It’s ok if you don’t consider yourself a ‘writer’.  Many blogs are written by everyday people just sharing their thoughts or ideas about a topic…almost like an extended Facebook or MySpace.

Picking a topic/niche for your blog

One thing you want to make sure you do is to pick a topic (or niche) that you enjoy and possibly already have some knowledge about.  You won’t catch me blogging about gardening tips because I don’t know much about it, and don’t really enjoy it.  Imagine how tedious blogging would be for me if I really wasn’t interested in the topic.  I think it would show through my writing.  But, blogging about something that you are passionate about or excited about, that ALSO will come through in your writing and allow your readers to enjoy your site and want to come back.

Enjoy your work and get paid

Yeah, I did use the word ‘work’ because it does require some effort.  But, if you enjoy what you do, it makes it seem less like work.  And, what could be more enjoyable than making money from doing what you like?

Get Started

If you’re reading this it is possible that you’re still wondering whether you should start a blog.  I say go for it, and here’s why.  If you’re here, on this site, right now, then it IS something you’re interested in.  And, it’s a lower investment than any other business you could start.

Make Money On the Net

Posted by admin on September 18, 2010

There are lots of different ways to make money on the net.

The BEST way I have found to make money on the net is to do something you enjoy.

A blog can make this possible.  For instance, let’s say that you really enjoy Civil War weapons, love talking about them, and love checking out replica’s online, etc.

You can start a blog talking about this topic, and put related ads on the site that will earn you extra cash!

How to start a blog to make money on the net:

1.  You can start a FREE blog online through Blogger.com.  I recommend this for beginners that don’t want to pay for a website.  Blogger.com is owned by Google, and is completely free.  You pick what you want your blog address to be, such as “Gary’s Civil War Weaponry”.  Blogger appends “.blogspot.com” to that internet address (url) so your website could be http://garyscivilwarweaponry.blogspot.com.

Once you go through the very simple setup process, you can start writing posts immediately.  And, you don’t have to be a “writer” per se, but just someone with something to say about a particular topic.  I see all kinds of blogs by everyday people all the time.

To begin making money on the net with your blog, you can do 2 quick things, and Blogger makes this super easy.

The first thing you do is sign up for a Google Adsense account.  It is completely free and allows you to put content relevant ads on your site.  If someone clicks on one of those ads, you earn money.  Once you earn $100 in your account (I’ve done this multiple times), you get a check from Google.  Pretty simple huh?

The second thing you do is sign up for an Amazon.com affiliate account.  This is also free, and easy to do through Blogger.  If you have the Civil war weapons blog, then I recommend having Amazon ads about the Civil War era, replicas, books, etc.

This is where the magic happens.  Since people are coming to your blog about that topic, and you have ads related to that topic, there is a good chance that people will either click on the related ads, or possibly make a purchase through Amazon, which earns you a commission.

NOW you’re making money on the net!

Having a blog won’t necessarily make you rich, but can be an excellent way to earn extra cash, and what better way to earn extra cash than doing something you enjoy?

2.  You can also start a blog where you get to pick your own domain (.com, .net, etc) and don’t have the appending “.blogspot.com” on it.  So your domain could now be http://garyscivilwarweaponry.com.

This method does cost money, but it’s relatively inexpensive.  For example, I use godaddy web hosting and it costs me around $5 per month for the web hosting account, and around $12 per YEAR for the domain (.com, .net, etc).  That’s pretty affordable!

The advantage of having a blog like this is that it shows you are a little more serious about your blog since you are actually paying for it.  This can increase your site’s credibility somewhat.

And to be honest, I’ve made much more money with a paid blog than I ever have with a Blogger account.  Again, I only mention the Blogger method as a way of getting your feet wet.  Blogging isn’t for everyone since it does require you to put up at least 3-4 posts per week once you get it going, and possibly even one per day at the very beginning to get some content out there.

Traffic

Internet traffic is the lifeline of your blog.  Myriads of articles, gurus, books, etc are out there talking about internet traffic.  It makes sense that the more visitors you get to your blog, the better your odds are at making money from a sale or click.  If you get no traffic, you make no money.  It’s that simple.

So how do you get traffic?

You can do what I did, and read and read and read and read and read all of the information available online for free, and hopefully figure it out.  OR, you can be more wise than I was and check out this site that tells you what you need to know and save yourself a lot of reading time and effort.  I use the techniques in this site to make money on the net.

(Note:  before you purchase a domain (.com, etc), check out this site first because you might change your idea for your domain from reading this information).

Make Extra Money at Home

Posted by admin on September 11, 2010

One of the best ways to make money online is to make extra money at home.

But how can you make extra money at home?  Here are some ways:

1. Start a blog-check out blogger.com, a FREE site owned by Google that allows you to create a blog. You can easily add google ads to it, or any other kind of affiliate offers that you come across. I recommend starting with Amazon.com in addition to google ads.

So what should you blog about?

Let’s start with something you are interested in.  It can be as simple as television shows you like to watch, or how to do something, especially if you’re one of those “go to” people.

If people tend to ask you questions about a particular topic a lot such as “how do I fix this computer error?”, then a blog can be quite easy for you.  Just post those questions, and your answers.

A blog can not only help you earn extra cash, but also help others who are searching for a particular solution.

Now, the biggest thing to keep in mind when starting a blog is how to get traffic.  This doesn’t have to be difficult, but MANY people fail at doing this.  So here are some simple tips to get you started:

a. Put a link to your blog in your email signature-everyone who gets an email from you will have this link and possibly click on it.

b. Post a link on your Twitter profile-see this post on making money with your Twitter account.

c. Post a link on your Facebook profile-each time you update your blog, post a link to your Facebook account.  Just make sure you post plenty of content on your Facebook BESIDES your blog posts.  Otherwise, it will look too spammy.

d. Post a link to your blog on other RELEVANT websites.  Don’t post a link to your website on other websites that have nothing to do with your topic or you’ll be quickly labeled as  a “spammer” and it will cast a negative light on your blog.  One good website to post comments on is YouTube.  Find a video that has to do with your topic, post a comment that is natural, and then add a link to your blog.  Don’t just post a link to your blog.  Use something more natural such as “Thank you for posting this video.  I’m also interested in ____.  I’d like to use your video on my blog” and put a link to your blog.

Another good place to post your link is Yahoo Answers, but I have to caution you to NOT put a link to your blog in your answer.  You can quickly get banned from Yahoo Answers for this (be sure to check out their terms of service before starting).  A better approach is to put a link to your blog in your Yahoo Answers profile, answer a question, and then in your answer add something like “feel free to check out the link in my profile for more information on this topic”. You can also offer to let people contact you via your Yahoo email or Instant Messenger. There are settings on Yahoo Answers to allow this if you like. Just keep in mind that people like dealing with other people, so keep your answers natural and not too desperate to get people to click on your link. If someone likes your answer, they will most likely take you up on your offer to check out your profile link :)

e. Daily check out google Trends and Yahoo.com to see what is trending that day.  If your blog fits into any of those topics, word the title of your post based on one of the trending topics to drive traffic to your site.

2. Get paid to read and click on emails-this won’t earn you a lot, but once your balance hits $30, you get a check. I’ve done it multiple times. And how long does it take to click on an email? I check my email every day anyway, so this makes for an easy way to make extra money online. Sites that are good for this are:
a. InboxDollars

b. SendEarnings

c. MyPoints-this website pays you with points toward great gift cards to some of your favorite retailers (instead of a check). These come in really handy for gift buying :)

These are just some of the ways to make extra money at home.  See other posts on this blog for even more ideas.
